We called in here for lunch on the first Monday in January and the restaurant was quiet but we were made to feel welcome and enjoyed an excellent lunch. So when we repeated our journey from Northants to Todmorden and back we decided to stop for Sunday lunch on our way home. We arrived at 1.30 and expected to be out of luck but they kindly found us a table and we enjoyed our Sunday roasts! Food and service were both excellent. We know the area quite well but only seem to pass through these days so are thinking about spending a couple of nights here to revisit some of the places we once knew! A warm and welcoming pub and something to look forward too in the near future We hope.
Oh the Bakewell Pudding was excellent too!
Wonderful Weekend with Friends
We had a wonderful weekend staying at The Plough with 3 other couples, celebrating a big birthday. Our visit coincided with the Hathersage village carnival ; we enjoyed village life by dancing to local bands and rides on the dodgems.
The Plough has a fantastic ambience, the food, staff, bedrooms and the breakfast were excellent and I would recommend this hotel highly when staying in the Peak District. This hotel is in walking distance of Stanage Edge and the village has numerous hostelries In which to enjoy a variety of local beers.
The local outdoor swimming pool in Hathersage was an added bonus to our stay as the weather was fantastic and the water in the pool was an average 28 degrees.
Will definitely return and recommend to our friends.
A Great Stay
We stayed for two nights and had three rooms. All the rooms were to a very good standard, clean and comfortable. The location was stunning and our stay at the plough Inn was great. The staff team were so helpful and accommodating. Thank you
Little Gem in the Peak District
Have just discovered this delightful pub and bed and breakfast in Hathersage. We spent a relaxing couple of nights here giving us time to explore locally before we made our way north. Very well appointed rooms, extremely helpful staff and delicious food. They cater for all food requests whether you eat meat or don’t and our teenage daughter’s vegan diet was no problem. There are at least two vegan choices for starters and main courses (in addition to lots of veggie, gluten free and meat options,) and they were more than happy to provide other vegan options on request. (Soya milk is also available as are vegan sausages for breakfast.)
There are lovely outdoor areas in which to sit and eat and drink as well as a large restaurant, and they now have luxurious looking shepherd’s huts for extra accommodation.
Highly recommended and we will return!
Popped in for Lunch
As the title literally stumbled across this place and walked in. It’s has a very pleasant setting , with a decent range of ales accompanied by a good range of wines ,for a change the house white was a good quality served in this establishment. We ordered of the Menu both taking the Beef the food here is well above pub grub more restaurant standard ,the price does reflect this and both meals were cooked to perfection. The Bar and waiting staff were well informed polite friendly and paid just enough attention to detail,we would probably recommend booking this place as when we left it was filling quickly and this would alleviate disappointment .
Room for improvement ? not really at this stage don’t mend what’s not broken we will definitely revisit
Bedroom spotless and sympathetically and tastefully decorated. Everything worked perfectly. Kitchen is a step above the norm. Well cooked, beautifully presented food delivered with a smile and the efficiency necessary in what is obviously a popular and busy restaurant.
Excellent Food and Service. Great Location
We went for lunch there was a wide range of dishes on the menu and we chose the roast beef which was very good. The desert was stunning. The staff were pleasant and efficient was excellent. Traditional decor.
One of the Best Pub Meals I Have Ever Had
My husband ,daughter and myself ate here last Saturday evening. I had the best steak sandwich ever! Honestly. My husband had chicken which he thoroughly enjoyed. My daughter had roast beef which she too enjoyed. All our puddings were super and the service excellent. We had our rather muddy dog with us and they were fine about that.
We will be back.
Ambitious Pub Food
I took a couple of clients here for lunch when the weather turned on a guided walk! What an excellent choice. It’s a smart interior with plenty of room and a good selection of ales including some local brews. We shared three starters, good sardines, better scallops and fantastic pork belly. The food was presented well and showed a real ambition. Our mains were more standard pub fayre but the fish and chips and my scampi were generous portions and very tasty. Staff were friendly and professional.
We enjoyed a one night stay at one of the new Shepherd Hut’s on the grounds of the pub and it was fantastic. Very beautifully designed space and only a short stroll to the pub for a drink and breakfast in the morning.
The hut was comfortable, stylish, kettle with teas and coffee, had a little microwave so if staying longer could make food, great shower, Freesat tv and little log burner.
Breakfast was very good in the morning (+ included in the price) Full range of cooked options, with cereals and juices.
A short walk to the main high street where we had dinner at Maazi indian restaurant.
We will definitely be visiting again. Thank you!
Wow Stunning Meal
Having had several days of nice, good, alright, came across the Ploughing, my starter of mushroom, black pudding, fois gras in a light mushroom sauce was up there with the finest I’ve had, my wife was impressed with a light basis vinaigrette, boccinni and sun dried tomatoes. Service friendly and efficient
